{"id":7162,"date":"2021-03-03T13:02:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-03T05:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/solariscancercare.org.au\/?p=7162"},"modified":"2021-03-03T13:02:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T05:02:00","slug":"cyclists-for-cancer-charity-head-to-bunbury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/solaris.nicoleking.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/03\/03\/cyclists-for-cancer-charity-head-to-bunbury\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyclists for cancer charity head to Bunbury"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>More than 40 cyclists involved in a 600km ride to raise funds for critical cancer care will arrive in Bunbury on Thursday, 4 March, the second day of their four-day journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Red Sky Ride raises money for integrated cancer care charity Solaris Cancer Care, which provides services to support WA cancer patients and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 43 riders will leave the Solaris Cottesloe support centre today (Wednesday 3 March) and are due to arrive at the Bunbury Solaris Cancer Care centre at 2pm tomorrow (4 March).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The riders will travel through the Ferguson Valley for two days before returning to Perth via Bunbury on 6 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solaris Cancer Care is a community-based healthcare organisation. Its cancer support centres are the first of their kind in Australia and offer support, information, education, and complementary therapies to cancer patients and their primary cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In WA, more than 13,300 people are diagnosed with cancer each year, a disease which causes three in every 10 deaths in the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solaris delivers $1.74 million of health care services in complementary therapies free each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It receives minimal ongoing financial support from government, relying on the generous support of the WA community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Red Sky Ride has raised more than $4 million in the past 14 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ends<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Solaris<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solaris was founded in 2001 after David Joske, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital\u2019s Senior Clinical Consultant in Haematology, identified a need for better information and supportive care for cancer patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which receives virtually no ongoing financial support from the government. Each year Solaris delivers $1.74 million worth of health care in complementary therapies free of charge.
